Bass Stocking Strengthens Recreational Fishing Across Victoria

Victoria’s freshwater fisheries received a major boost with 150,000 Australian bass fingerlings recently released into nine waterways across the state as part of a larger stocking program designed to enhance recreational fishing opportunities. The stocking effort is part of a broader seasonal strategy that will see an additional 250,000 bass released into 11 other waterways this year, contributing to a substantial statewide stocking initiative.

Community Effort Boosts Fish Stocks at Brogo Dam

In early January 2024, Brogo Dam on the NSW South Coast was stocked with 15,000 Australian bass and 20,000 estuary perch fingerlings in a community-led restocking program. The initiative, supported by dedicated local anglers and the Far South Coast Bass Stocking Association, aims to rebuild fish populations that have declined due to habitat loss and overfishing.

Narooma Aquaculture Contributes to Brogo Dam Fish Restocking

In early 2024, tens of thousands of Australian Bass and Estuary Perch fingerlings were released into Brogo Dam through a local stocking program supported by Narooma Aquaculture. Hatchery director Bruce Lawson highlighted the careful breeding and transport work in support of local fish populations.
